Clinician - Subject Matter Expert
Healthcare Consulting Firm
Washington, DC (telecommuting option from anywhere in the US)

One of the most prominent and fastest growing Healthcare Informatics Consulting firms in the country based out of Washington, DC, seeks an expert clinician for an opportunity with the Department of Veteran Affairs. This position will be responsible for analyzing clinical data, national terminology and ontology standards, then recommending implementation strategies. These strategies and resultant solutions must support advanced capabilities such as automated clinical decision support, knowledge management, and interoperable data exchange between the VA health applications, and between the VA and its healthcare partners including the Department of Defense, Indian Health Service and the Centers for Disease Control.

We are looking for candidates with the following skills and qualities:

Requirements

- Advanced clinical, informatics or related degree

- Successful experience in interdisciplinary clinical practice in both inpatient and outpatient settings, especially in multi-hospital systems.

- Understanding of managed terminology and its implementation and use in clinical practice.

- Ability to use MS Access and MS Excel for data analysis; experience using mind-mapping tools and techniques is a plus.

- Excellent oral and written communication skills.

- Excellent interpersonal skills and conflict management skills.

Preferred:

- Advanced degree in at least one area of Healthcare Informatics.

- Understanding of standard terminologies, ontologies and vocabularies used in multidisciplinary clinical settings. Examples include SNOMED-CT, LOINC, as well as clinical discipline-specific vocabularies.

- Knowledge and understanding current clinical practice standards highly desirable.

- Knowledge and understanding of Healthcare Information Technical Standards Panel (HITSP) activities, specifications and implementation guidelines.

- Experience with inter-agency information exchange and interoperability projects, especially DoD.

- Experience using specialized terminology authoring, management and deployment tools.
