German Speaking Patent Prosecution Professional

1+ year of any IP experience and you must be fluent in German and English.

This growing casual and friendly FAIRFAX, VA Patent firm seeks a German-speaking patent prosecution assistant to assist a great group of attorneys with a great supervisor.

You must be organized, a self-starter and a desire to learn and grow in patent law.  You must be able to work independently and prioritize tasks. You must have strong organizational and writing skills. You must have excellent proofreading skills and attention to detail, be able to work under pressure in a high-volume environment. You must have Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, and Internet Explorer. Microsoft Excel is a plus. Training will be provided for PerfectLaw, EFS, EPAS, CTS, and other programs used by our office. German fluency either native or learned is a must.

Job duties include many aspects of patent prosecution from filing to issue, including docketing, billing, client correspondence, status checks, and preparing and filing documents with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Document submissions include, but are not limited to, new utility, design, provisional, and plant applications, original and supplemental application data sheets, recordation of assignments and other document affecting ownership, declarations, powers of attorney, chain of title forms, priority documents, information disclosure statements, preliminary amendments, sequence listings, English translations, responses to pre-examination formalities notices (Notices to File Missing Parts, Notices to Correct Application Papers, Notices to Comply, etc.), requests for corrected Official Filing Receipts, corrective assignments, issue fees, responses to Office Actions, terminal disclaimers, extensions of time, requests for continued examination, continued prosecution applications, AFCP requests, notices of appeal, appeal briefs, reply briefs, requests for certificate of corrections, various petitions, maintenance fees, and other types of documents on an as-needed basis. Job duties also include obtaining IDS references from available online databases, and proofreading and formatting work generated by attorneys, patent agents, and technical advisors.  Complying with USPTO and firm rules and regulations, as well as other projects on an as-needed basis.
