Legal Recruiting Manager – Based out of Washington, DC and covering DC and Virginia

One of the largest, oldest and most prestigious law firms in the world, with more than 1,500 lawyers throughout the United States, Europe, the Middle East and Asia seek an experienced Legal Recruiting Manager.

This position is responsible for the direction, coordination and overall management of lateral and law student recruiting primarily for the Washington, DC area and Richmond offices of this major international law firm. You will handle the recruitment and integration of lateral lawyers, management of the fall recruitment process and summer associate program, new associate orientation and integration, mentor program, and various related talent management duties. This position will also provide recruiting support as needed to other offices on the East Coast.

You will handle all general recruiting functions, works in partnership with the Director of Recruiting, Department Heads, Practice Leaders, and the Office Managing Partners to identify and attract lateral partner candidates. You will report on competitive market intelligence on hiring statistics, opportunities and risk assessments. You will collaborate with sponsoring partners and local administrative teams to guide lateral candidates through the recruiting and onboarding processes. You will ensure the experience is representative of the Firm’s standards of excellence. You will team with attorneys and Business Development to ensure the seamless transition of each lateral partner’s integration and business development efforts. You will develop and analyze reports and projections regarding market trends in diversity, legal recruiting, and retention. You will prescreen all lateral attorney and law student applications for employment and ensure that appropriate correspondence is produced and that appropriate records are maintained. You will interview candidates and discuss the Firm’s recruitment procedures and policies. You will manage formal due diligence and offer process for lateral hires.

You will serve as the point of contact with all outside organizations involved in the legal recruiting process including but not limited to: legal search firms, the National Association for Law Placement, other law firms and other professional organizations.

You will develop, prepare and analyze reports, projections and statistics regarding market hiring, general management and other attorney-related personnel issues for use by Firm management. You will be an active member of Recruiting and Summer Associate Committees. You will prepare and manage legal recruiting annual budget. Summer Associate Program. You will design, attend, and implement all components of summer program, including but not limited to: on-campus and call-back interview process, pre-employment communications, orientation, training, work assignments, educational and social events and evaluation process. You will manage Summer Associate mentoring program. You will maintain summer associate files, work assignments, evaluation forms/processes; follow up with assigning attorney regarding feedback to summer associates. You will counsel and advise Summer Associates throughout the summer on firm policies, procedures and other firm matters. You will prepare and monitor Summer Associate program annual budget. You will plan and coordinate fall and off-season law school recruiting efforts such as receptions and targeted correspondence. You will manage (in conjunction with the firm wide recruiting team) pre-employment correspondence to entry-level associates, new hire start dates, moving and bar-related expenses/reimbursement and stipend. You will disseminate information regarding new hires to appropriate firm personnel. You will develop orientation program and oversees integration of new attorneys. You will communicate with new associates about bar application process, firm policies, and manages reimbursement process for bar application fees. You will coordinate first year mentoring program.

A Bachelor’s Degree is strongly preferred in HR, Business, organizational development or other related fields.

You must have a minimum of four (4) years of management-level recruiting experience in a law firm and prior supervisory experience is preferred to demonstrate the understanding of current law firm industry, market trends and philosophies.
