Litigation Paralegal

Located near Foggy Bottom Metro

9-5:30 M-F with regular paid overtime weekly.

Work Model: Onsite 4-5 days a week during your first 90 days and then up to 2 days remote after 90 days. Training will be at the firm’s East Coast headquarters for the first 3 days (at the firm’s expense),

The billable-hour target is 1,500 hours per year.

Non-exempt position up to $130,000 plus paid overtime

This incredible Am Law 200 law firm with offices on the East Coast seeks an experienced Real Estate Paralegal to support the D.C. office, providing high-level paralegal support to a team of affordable housing attorneys in the firm’s collaborative, happy, busy Real Estate Practice Group.

Position Reports to the DC Office Manager, HR Manager, Practice Group Chairs

Overall Responsibilities:

  • Collects, analyzes, organizes, and maintains factual information and documents in accordance with correct legal practice and procedure.
  • Prepares pleadings, drafts interrogatories, answers interrogatories, and responds to requests to produce documents under the supervision of the assigned attorney.
  • Manages, records, and organizes all discovery and trial data, and prepares and maintains the trial notebook.
  • Files pleadings, motions, and documents with the court as directed by the supervising attorney.
  • Summarizes testimony and transcripts.
  • Assists in locating and preparing witnesses for trial; obtains and organizes trial exhibits; and coordinates witnesses’ appearance at trial.
  • Assists in drafting releases and motions.
  • Develops a knowledge of laws, regulations, rules, and procedures in specific areas of law.
  • Maintains and updates a database of expert witnesses.
  • Develops and maintains a working relationship with clients in order to ensure the expeditious gathering of facts and information necessary to support litigation activities.
  • Travel as needed to conduct witness interviews.
  • Travel to and from hearings.
  • Attend weekly meetings.
  • Bates Labeling.
  • Overtime may be required on occasion.
  • Other duties/tasks as assigned.

 

Required skills:

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience working as a paralegal.
  • Must have substantial and recent pre-trial and trial experience using TrialDirector software, or a comparable software program, in presenting exhibits and supporting audio/visual presentations at trial.
  • At least two years’ experience working predominantly in litigation, with health care litigation a plus.
  • Must have thorough knowledge of the state and federal court system and procedures.
  • Should possess the ability to utilize electronic case management and trial software.
  • Need to be available and able to attend out-of-town trials lasting two or more weeks.
  • Ability to work independently, be a self-starter, and communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Must possess excellent organizational skills and self-initiation.

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • At least three years of experience in the above skill areas.
  • Paralegal Certificate is preferred
  • High School diploma (or equivalent). Bachelor’s degree is a plus.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office Suite and Adobe software programs, with familiarity in using NetDocs and electronic signature platforms. Itimekeep or Aderant are helpful,
