Brian J. Steffan is originally from Cazenovia, New York, and is a graduate of The Catholic University of America, where he earned a degree in Business with a concentration in Human Resources.
Brian has been a leader in the Direct-Hire, Temporary, and Contract Recruiting industry since 1994. He began his career in the temporary employment industry before transitioning to direct-hire recruiting with a large Northern Virginia staffing and recruiting agency.
In 1995, Brian founded Steffan & Co., Incorporated. Over more than three decades in the industry, he has successfully placed more than 14,000 candidates with law firms, Fortune 500 companies, major associations, and organizations throughout the United States. His extensive experience has given him a unique understanding of both sides of the recruiting process—and a commitment to creating successful, long-term matches between exceptional candidates and outstanding employers.
Brian has built his reputation on a simple philosophy: send the right candidate—or don’t send anyone. He takes the same approach when working with candidates, listening carefully to their goals, experience, and expectations to help them identify career opportunities that are truly the right fit.
Throughout his career, Brian has continually educated himself and his staff on employment laws, industry trends, recruiting strategies, and evolving workplace practices. He believes that staying informed and adapting to a changing employment landscape are essential to providing the highest level of service to both clients and candidates.
Beyond his professional career, Brian has been deeply involved in community and civic leadership. He is a graduate and Class Representative of the 2010 class of Leadership Arlington and participated in the 2011 Leadership Forum through the Center for Leadership Excellence.
Brian has held numerous leadership and volunteer positions with organizations throughout Washington, D.C., Virginia, and West Virginia. His community involvement has included the Arlington Community Foundation, Grey Gardens Animal Rescue, the Hardy County Historical Society, the Gloria A. Steffan Scholarship Fund, and Aspire Early Learning Center, where he has served in roles including board member, fundraising and social media chair, and executive director.
He also actively supports local fire and rescue organizations, cancer-related charities, food banks, and other community initiatives. Brian previously served as a member of the Citizens Advisory Council on Interpreting and Furnishing the Executive Mansion of Virginia.
