Legal Billing Manager (US)

Currently working remotely until mid-October and then return to in-office work in Chicago, IL

Salary up to $150,000 with a bonus at year-end.

As the Billing Manager – US, you will co-lead the firm’s US Billing function for eight domestic offices, responsible for executing the monthly invoicing cycle for the firm’s US partners. In collaboration with a peer manager and support of the departmental head, among key responsibilities of this role are developing strategies, managing assigned personnel, ensuring sustained operational excellence, providing exemplary customer service to Firm partners, and innovating. While this position requires tactical billing expertise, the nature of the role is one of strategy, leadership, talent management, and driving process superiority.

You will ensure sustained operational excellence and execution of the US WIP cycle; Lead, develop, and mentor assigned staff; Serves as a dynamic and inspiring leader throughout the firm; Fosters an empowering, collaborative work culture; Ensures elite customer service to Firm partners and clients; Identifies partner support needs; creatively drives solutions; Effectively solves problems; Forges strong working relationships with partners and administrative colleagues; Applies insights provided by data and departmental metrics; Conceives new ideas, innovates, leverages technology; Collaborates with and supports peer finance and administrative departments; Ensures compliance with Firm deadlines and policies and supports utilization of departmental systems and related upgrades.

You will also continually develop expertise on the staff’s tasks and responsibilities; The legal billing cycle; The firm’s billing practices and key billing dynamics; The firm’s billing and eBilling software and the data and the department’s performance metrics

The ideal candidate will have:

A Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of five(5) years in a billing environment, required; legal billing, strongly preferred

A minimum of three (3) years in a leadership capacity, required

Expert level knowledge of legal billing and e-Billing and strong knowledge of billing software required, legal billing software, strongly preferred, Aderant experience a plus and advanced Microsoft Suite expertise, required.

Handling performance of assigned team’s output as well as the elevation of the team’s staff; Developing and assigning goals; Professional development (training/mentoring); Timely addressing of performance issues; Regular dialogue on performance and participating in recruiting, interviewing, and transition of assigned staff.
