This senior-level position provides management, supervision, and direction to the 100+ Legal Secretaries, Practice Assistants, and Practice Assistant Supervisors for the large DC office.

This position ensures the administrative staff provides the highest level of administrative support and client service to the firm’s attorneys and clients. Working through direct reports, the senior manager is responsible for performance management, ensuring assigned staff maintains appropriate skill levels to perform their job responsibilities and provides guidance and coaching to direct reports while fostering a team environment.

You will serve as manager, mentor, coach, role model, and facilitator to legal service staff and Supervisors. You will supervise the supervisors’ execution of ongoing responsibilities, administrative staff management, and human resources responsibilities. You will manage the performance of direct reports providing on-going feedback and coaching. Establish goals, objectives, and complete performance evaluations. You will participate in the interview process, assessing applicants and coordinates interviews with attorneys, when applicable. Consult with Supervisors before new employees arriving regarding mentor assignment and checklist of items to be accomplished during the first 90 days. Work with Training Manager(s) to design, assess and coordinate programs for staff; coordinate ongoing developmental training for direct reports particularly as it relates to established goals and objectives and varying career stages. Serve as the escalation point in resolving issues. Creates and maintains solid relationships with attorneys, paralegals, and staff. Interact daily with Supervisor(s)/ Office Coordinators regarding coverage and work assignments. Work with Office Administrator/Manager on office operations and events as necessary.

A successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent educational experience and a minimum of 10 years related supervisory/management experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience, law firm experience highly preferred. Ability to interact effectively with all levels in the Firm. Skills in counseling and mentoring subordinates; ability to deliver disciplinary actions as appropriate. Skills in problem resolution while remaining calm in high-pressure situations. Innovative and strategic thinking. They offer a great salary up to $140,000 based on education, skills, and years of experience.
