Then we have a destination for you. they’re looking for the right person to join our team as a senior systems administrator.

The ideal candidate needs to have strong understanding of multiple technologies and their deeper layers as well as to be able to move between technologies.

We are seeking an experienced Senior System Administrator to support the research operations of the Speech Technology and Research (STAR) lab. We are looking for a self-starter with a positive can-do attitude, eager to explore and learn new things, and comfortable working independently with minimal supervision.  You will provide the main support for STAR lab’s engineers and researchers and will have primary responsibility for the lab’s data-driven high performance computing environment, including:

You will be the first line of support helping lab members with individual hardware and software problems

You will support the research lab computer farm – lot of storage 2pb of data / disk – NFS mounts – VMware and Zen > Ubuntu and others

The firm’s research lab works on voice recognition and small data, like Siri

You will handle Wintel issues

A knowledge of storage migrations – rsync

You will support migration off of existing legacy intro hybrid on prem private cloud – Isilon

You will handle ongoing monitoring and maintenance of system hardware and software, including:

    • effective provisioning, installation/configuration
    • racking and stacking of hardware components (servers, storage, switches, cables), as well as replacing broken components and parts
    • contribute to technical documentation and specifications to deliver troubleshooting tips, operational procedures, mature monitoring, improved resiliency, high availability and security
    • Troubleshooting problems as they arise
    • perform deep dives and analyze complex technical issues within a highly distributed computing environment
    • this can range from (but is not limited to): automated tooling, software compatibility, hardware failures, network issues, configuration problems and performance degradation

You need to have the following to be considered.

A BS in Computer Science, information Systems or related field
5+ years of experience
A solid understanding of and advanced hands-on technical skills in Linux (especially Ubuntu)
A solid understanding of configuration, maintenance and troubleshoot of complex distributed systems, including hand-on experience
Hands-on experience configuring individual hardware and software from scratch
Experience in modifying and developing in commonly used scripting or programming                        languages
A working knowledge of virtualization software and environments (VMware, Xen, docker, virtual env, conda, etc.)
A Working knowledge of network and server security
Solid knowledge of data center power management
A working knowledge of Linux Automount and Network File System shares ( NFS )
U.S. Citizenship is required.
