Legal Assistant – Corporate, SEC, and Business practice group

This job is currently remote until sometime in June (TBD), and you can voluntarily come into the office one day a week now, but in June, it will be a hybrid model of three days in the office and two days working remotely.

The firm seeks an experienced Legal Assistant to join their Corporate Practice Group in the DC office.  Please have 5+ years of legal secretary/assistant experience in a law firm or professional service firm.

You will assist with significant corporate transactions, including Mergers & Acquisitions, SEC filings, Registration Statements, and Form 10-K. Compose general correspondence, reports, memoranda, spreadsheets, expense reports, and complex documents that may require advanced word processing skills. Maintain attorney(s) appointment calendars, meetings, business trips, sensitive client matters, and prepares mailings. Enter attorneys billable time, arrange all travel reservations, and prepare travel expense reports. Transcribe legal documents, correspondence, and reports from rough draft, dictation, or transcription. Open new files, request conflict of interest checks with the appropriate department, and maintains all client and general files. Keep files current and filing up-to-date for each client/matter. Conduct periodic review for possible storage of older files; prepares files to be closed. Manage competing priorities, identify the work order to be completed and communicate work requirements to attorneys. Prioritize workload to meet deadlines; must be able to work effectively in deadline pressured situations. Compose documents in the appropriate business style using correct grammar and spelling; proofread typed material for grammatical, typographical, or spelling errors. There is intensive document organization and preparation. Handle e-filing in state and local courts

Required and preferred qualifications:

A minimum of 5 years of legal secretarial/assistant experience in a law firm or professional services environment supporting multiple professionals is required

Corporate law experience is highly preferred

Proficiency in e-filing in state and federal courts is required

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel) and Adobe Acrobat is required

Minimum typing speed of 60 wpm.
